The Journey
The exuberance and dedication with which Jansen advocates for health today is magnified by the extraordinary means by which she found her calling. In the mid-1980s, she was living it up on the beach, working at a record store, and searching for that big break as a model in Los Angeles. Her one-track pursuit of rock shows, parties, and glamour was irrevocably changed when one day she collapsed suddenly. On Halloween 1986, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, and given a 50/50 chance of survival. It was a sobering prognosis at the age of 20. After eight months of chemotherapy, radiation, and a crash course in alternative healing methods, the survivor never looked back.
An Inspired Life
Through an ordeal that many would find sorrow, Jansen recognized the lessons and made a radical change toward a life path of helping others. This visionary determination has been the power behind her pursuit of assisting others on their path. "I wanted to make a difference to others coming behind me," she says. "I feel blessed to be able to do this work. It gives me direction and passion everyday." Subsequently her health has continually defied her, creating an environment for redefining what is truly of importance in life. In addition to supporting individuals she now challenges herself by backpacking moutains to high elevations and riding her bike with an increased determination each cycling season despite her radiation scarred lungs and asthma. She advocates for change nationally through meetings with political delegates on Capitol Hill and voluntary and fundraising efforts for a multitude of cancer support organizations. Jansen is continually looking to make a difference by participating in cutting edge conferences and events.
